This week we started a water control project for a client. Their basement has been wet almost all the time, in spite of having some draintile and a sump pump in a portion of the basement. The real problem seems to be with iron ochre. From what I know about iron ocher it is a very problematic material. I believe it is a bacteria that lives off of disolved iron in water. It is fierce about growing in areas, and it tends to clog up drainage ways. In this instance the previously installed draingage tile included a filter fabric on the outside of the tile. Iron orcher completely plugged the filter fabric and has been growing inside the drainage pipe on the corrugated walls of the tile. Hopefully our work will resolve the water issues.
