NAFlogo Last night Ellen and I attended a birthday party…..for the 100_3168 Northfield Area Foundation (NAF). NAF is celebrating its first 15 years of helping organizations in the Northfield area. I currently serve on the Board of Advisors for NAF and have thoroughly enjoyed that service. We had a great time last night, complete with a fitting birthday cake.

100_3169 The event was open to the entire community with hopes that people would come and learn more about NAF. We had a fine group of people show up at the100_3174 Grand Event center for the party. NAF has been quietly working in Northfield to raise endowment funds so that we can assist worthwhile community projects. We’ve supported a wide range of efforts in the area through our financial grants…from community beautification projects, to early childhood 100_3170 projects, to specific school needs, to programs for developmentally challenged individuals, and on and on. Last night many recipients were on hand with displays about their organizations. Sandi Gerdes with Laura Baker Services was there to show people how a NAF grant helped their residents. And of course, we had the large check on hand that we use when presenting grants to groups…

NAF has been fortunate to receive bequests from area residents, building our endowment to over $1 million. We have two annual grant cycles where organizations are encouraged to apply for grants. This is truly a ‘people helping people’ action where dollars directed to NAF will continue to provide support in the community forever.
