Happy New Year

I wish all of our clients and readers a Happy New Year. 2009 has created struggles for many of us all across the state and nation. The construction industry has been hit particularly hard by the economic depression. We are all looking forward to improved conditions in 2010.

One thing that is not in short supply this early...

Deer

Early this spring I posted about a deer family that was hanging around at my home. Ellen and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the doe with her triplet fawns. We would see them from time to time as the fawns lost their spots and started to grow up. Then we didn’t see them for a stretch late this fall, and hoped they didn’t end up...

Winter Frost

Yesterday was one of those beautiful winter days where the trees, wires, poles and grasses were covered with a soft white frost. This is the kind of frost that is pretty but isn’t damaging. Sometimes we get blasts from winter that coat everything with heavy clear ice which pulls wires, breaks poles and causes havoc. This gentle...

Atlanta, GA

Ellen and I spent last week in Atlanta, Georgia. It was nice to get away to a different climate for a bit, although it was unseasonably cold there. We mainly had blue skies with full sun which helped warm things by noon most days.

When we travel I always like to look at architecture. Atlanta is full of interesting buildi...

Atlanta, part two

When we were in Atlanta last week I was really struck by the geometric lines and designs of the newer buildings downtown. Atlanta has a lot of construction from the 1960’s on. In fact I heard some complaints from some of the local folks that Atlanta destroyed some of their fine historic buildings in the 1950’s and 1960’s, in...

Northfield Home Show

Northfield Construction Company will once again be part of the Northfield Spring Home show. It is being held this Saturday, April 10th from 9:00AM to 3:30PM at Bridgewater Elementary school in Northfield. The show is free to the public, as always. It is a great time to wander around, look at new products, and visit with old and ne...

Home Show

Saturday was indeed a great day for the Northfield Home show. The weather was perfect and people enjoyed getting out and visiting the show. Groups of people started out right at the 9:30 opening and kept up very steady until early afternoon. I staffed our booth all day, showing people photos of some of our completed work. Attende...

Taste of Northfield

The Northfield Downtown Development Corporation (NDDC) is hosting their annual ‘Taste of Northfield’ event again this year. They are adding a new twist----two days! It starts tonight at 4:00PM and also is being held tomorrow night. This has always been a well attended, fun event. Plan to come to Bridge Square in downtown North...

Willow River Days

Ellen and I spent the weekend at our cottage in the Pine/Carlton County area. On Saturday we went to Willow River for Willow River Days. In spite of some rather rainy periods we had a fun time at this small town Minnesota event.

The main feature is of course the parade. There were lots of entries including trucks f...

DJJD Hog Roast

The committee hosted a hog roast for area business people and supporters of DJJD last night. In spite of a hot August night the turn out a the event was excellent. I’m up early most days and yesterday I passed the hog roast location and saw the workers there under the lights at 4:30AM tending to the hog roasting.
