Maple Street work continues

Last week we were able to complete the roofing work on our Maple Street house that is under construction.

It took a bit longer than ‘normal’ to get the roof shingles in place as we had to do quite a bit of work on the fascia. The fascia board on this home---what some people call the eave board---is installed...

Architect’s visit

Last week Kelly Davis, the architect for our Maple Street residence, made a site visit. It was good to see Kelly and I know he was glad to inspect our work. Workers were busy on site installing red trimmed Marvin windows and getting ready for mechanical and electrical work.

New home on Second Street in Northfield

Yesterday morning was one of those fun events I get to participate in from time to time. We had a groundbreaking ceremony for a new home we will be constructing for a client in Northfield. The whole family was there working the ‘golden shovels’ to start work on their fine new home.

Once the main shovel cere...

The structural details call for welding short metal lugs in place through the metal deck, fastened to the steel beams. We do this type of ‘shock welding’ using a l...

Curved, colored concrete

Every now and then we get to do something fun with concrete....last week was one of those times. The client we are building a family room addition for asked if we could create a couple of circular stoops using colored concrete. I said we could, and the end result I think is rather pretty, and gives a 'soft' feeling to what is normall...

We used Form-A-Drain materials for the footings. This is a hollow rigid plastic form that we place inside and outside the footing, creating a form for the co...

First National Bank work…

Last Friday we poured the second floor concrete slab at the First National Bank-south building.

The reinforced concrete floor sits on top of corrugated metal decking that was welded to the structural steel beams. It is nice to have this slab in place for the workers as it is a smooth surface to walk on. We sta...
