Chris Kennelly – Owner

Chris

When did you start working for Northfield Construction Company? Would you describe your job for us?
I’ve been involved in real estate construction and development for fifteen years, and I’ve been with Northfield Construction since 2012. As President, I make sure that all projects and people are moving forward, and that we’re not just meeting client expectations—we’re exceeding them.

Can you tell us a little bit about your previous construction/carpentry experience?
My background is in project management and property development. I have my MBA in Real Estate Development and Finance from University of Colorado. Before coming to NCC, I led development and investment projects of over one million square feet.

When you aren’t at NCC, who do you spend your time with? Tell us a little bit about your family!
I like spending time with family and Otto the Construction Dog. My wife and I live in the country and enjoy working on and maintaining our property. We also have two sons, both involved in sports and activities, so we stay pretty busy.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking, and playing sports like hockey and golf. I also enjoy listening to music.

What has been your favorite NCC project? Why?
We greatly enjoyed being part of the Laura Baker Services campus projects, and are very pleased with the turnout. My favorite projects, though, are probably small kitchen remodels and projects in people’s homes. It’s inspiring to see how happy the clients are, and what a difference a remodel can make on their daily life. It makes me proud to have happy clients at the end of a project.

What has been your favorite NCC project? Why?
There have been many large and interesting projects and a lot of churches that we have done have been enjoyable, but my favorite was Millstream Commons, which we built in 2005. It was a large and very detailed project and at the time it was built, the project had a value of 5 million plus. Very interesting project.

Jodi Duden-Clare – Financial Administrator

JodiWhen did you start working for Northfield Construction Company? Would you describe your job for us?
I started August 4, 1986 as a temporary fill-in because one of the owners (Arnie Nelson) and his wife Jeanette (the NCC bookkeeper) were going to be gone for two weeks to visit their son who was teaching in Japan. My son was 3 weeks old and they allowed me to bring him to work with me for those two weeks. After that, I was asked to come on staff full-time. I worked on drafting residential home plans for the company and did office duties, such as receptionist, filing, etc. In 1991 there was a change in ownership and the Nelsons were no longer with NCC. I was then asked to take on the role of book-keeper. My current job title is Financial Administrator. I process accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and job cost tracking. I’m also involved in employee benefit administration and processing.

Can you tell us a little bit about your previous construction/carpentry experience?
My father was a carpenter by trade, so I have been around construction my whole life. I own power tools and do many of my own construction projects at my home. From 1982-1984, I attended DCTC in the Architectural Technology course. After graduation I worked for Bragonier Architects in Northfield from 1984-1985, doing architectural drafting. Many of the projects I worked on were for NCC.

He is currently a student at Mankato State University. We have two dogs: Bandit (a 12-year-old yellow lab) and Reggy (an 8-month-old Golden-Doodle).

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In the summer, I enjoy my flower gardens and I love to go camping and fishing. In the winter I love to sew and my main sewing consists of making doll clothes. At Christmas time, I purchase a few 18” dolls and package up dolls clothes and donate them to Toys for Tots.

The John & MaryBeth Bremer house. I drew the plans for this house and it was interesting watching it go from paper to reality. It was a beautiful home.

Tyler Severson – Project Manager

Tyler SeversonWhen did you start working for Northfield Construction Company? Would you describe your job for us?
My first day at NCC was in January of 2016. My title is Project Manager. There are many things a project manager is responsible for; including estimating, scheduling, supervising, and being a 3rd party between the customer and their finished product. Our main goal is to find the right people for the job and get them the best resources and materials to get the job done as efficiently as possible.

Can you tell us a little bit about your previous construction/carpentry experience?
I was 13 years old when I started cleaning up job sites in the summers for my father’s residential company. After graduating college with a construction management degree, I continued working for him until the collapse of the residential industry in 2008. Since then, I’ve spent time working in northern Wisconsin for a custom home contractor, and most recently working for a local commercial contractor.
